Wire Daisies – Wire Daisies: This four-piece British band has been a hot act in the U.K. for years, but their sophomore release is about to turn heads worldwide. At least I hope it does because it might just herald a new era of interesting radio pop rock unheard of since The Cranberries last took over the charts. Not that lead vocalist Treanna Morris has Dolores O’Riordan’s Irish lilt; but the Wire Daisies do have the same keen sense of melody and groove that makes every song so damn catchy.
What makes their arrangements so enticing is the band’s use of electronic elements that give tracks like “Move Over” and “Make Everything Change” a mysterious spirit. Meanwhile, sure-fire pop romps like “Rocket Girl” and “Gayboy” are for fans of early 90’s rock. The standout for me is the folksy “Just Another Day,” as it’s one of the prettiest ballads I have heard in a very long time.
For fans of solid pop songs, the Wire Daisies have put together a very strong debut for North American audiences. (Merovingian Music/Transistor Project)
