Ron Sexsmith, Retriever

Over the past few years Ron Sexsmith has put out some fantastic records. Hailed as one of Canada’s greatest songwriters by Paul McCartney to Steve Earle, Sexsmith has an ear for lyrics that touch the heart and soul. Starting with 2001’s Blue Boy, Sexsmith began to musically explore different genres like jazz, country, and blues. His most recent effort, Retriever, is focused on gentle pop melodies, but it’s hard to distinguish the songs from each other. However, Sexsmith redeems this minor flaw with his sincerity, a quality that comes through in all the songs he pens. (Warner) Rating: 3.5 Out Of 5 Stars
