The Populars, A Pill for Everyone

The Populars, A Pill for Everyone

You would think that after a three-year absence from the Canadian rock scene that The Populars would return from the gutter with a rekindled passion and authority for their brand of poppy rock. But instead, A Pill For Everyone offers up the same set of formulaic, three-chord garage rock that a lot of bands are peddling these days. What makes the disc even harder to enjoy is the lack of spontaneity to any of the songs. Even when the band sings about partying ("Weekend Warrior") it sounds like they’ve never down so in their lives; "You’re a weekend warrior/ ready to blow/ going downtown/ got your good shoes on/ so you can tap your toes/ to the new sound." The Populars just don’t have enough fuel in the engine to produce a lasting impression, once you’ve heard one of their songs; you’ve heard them all. (Kindling Music/Warner Music Canada)
