Album Review: Marianne D’Elia, ‘Stay Another Night’

Winner of a Winnipeg jazz station contest called “Project Cool 2006,” Marianne D’Elia was awarded $25,000 to assist in the recording of her debut album, Stay Another Night. D’Elia put her money to good use by hiring some of the Peg's best jazz-pop musicians, including Howard Klopak (multi-Instrumentalist), Gilles Fournier (Bass), Murray Pulver (Guitar) and Leonard Shaw (piano). These guys pull off some smoking performances in what is just an adult contemporary pop album. Night is full of over-the-top yearning and gushy songs that are constructed for D’Elia’s pitch-perfect voice. However, let’s not kid ourselves; these tracks are so tame that even your grandmother will love them. With a voice as powerful as D’Elia’s let’s hope she doesn’t stay an easy listening artist for life. (Independent)
