Greg Keelor, Seven Songs for Jim

Keelor’s latest solo outing is his way of dealing and mourning his father’s death. His well-travelled voice matches the intensity of these precious songs about his childhood, his father, and his questions about of life and death. Like his 1997 debut solo release, Gone, Songs for Jim displays Keelor’s talent for writing songs with a bare, folkish, home-recorded intimacy. Another highlight of Keelor’s solo work is that it features his restrained and brilliant finger plucking and calmed electric reverb. Seven Songs for Jim is heartbreaking and at times difficult to listen to because of its heavy subject matter, but for those who have ever felt the pain of losing anyone close, this recording will serve as solace.
