Veteran Canadian journalist Kevin Newman has been named the new host and managing editor of CTV’s newsmagazine, W5.

Newman has been a correspondent on the show for four years and takes over from Lloyd Robertson, who will continue to appear on the program and other CTV News properties as a special correspondent.

Robertson was the long-time anchor of CTV National News until he retired in 2011.

A one-hour W5 50th anniversary retrospective special featuring Robertson will air on Sept. 24 at 7 p.m. ET/PT.

Newman is best known as the former anchor of Global National, which he helped launch in 2001. He also hosted CBC’s Midday from 1992-1994 and co-hosted ABC’s Good Morning America from 1998-1999.
