Alicia Keys’ gangsta rap conspiracy theory

Alicia Keys recently made some eyebrow-raising statements during an interview with Blender magazine.

The Grammy award-winning artist talked openly about her political views, which include a conspiracy theory that gangsta rap was orchestrated by the government.

“‘Gangsta rap’ was a ploy to convince black people to kill each other,” Keys told Blender. When asked who was behind the ploy, Keys replied, “The government.”

Keys went on to claim that the feuds between rappers such as the late Tupac Shakur and Notorious B.I.G. were fueled “by the government and the media, to stop another great black leader from existing.”

Keys, who was put under surveillance prior to the 2004 Republican National Convention for “openly talking of anarchist actions,” also revealed that she has been poring over autobiographies of Black Panthers such as Huey Newton and Assata Shakur.

Keys also explained a golden AK-47 pendant which she wears around her neck, “to symbolize strength, power and killing ’em dead.” When Blender questioned Keys’ mother about the pendant, she replied, “She wears what?”
