'Yo-kai Watch 2' launches in North America on Sept. 30

Yo-kai Watch 2 will be available for the Nintendo 3DS in North America on September 30, Nintendo announced. Two versions will be available, each featuring unique and rare Yo-kai, subtitled Bony Spirits and Fleshy Souls.

Yo-kai Watch 2 continues the series’ RPG gameplay and offers areas to explore outside of Springdale, featuring 100 new Yo-kai, time travel and an improved in-game Yo-kai Watch. The original Japanese version was released on July 10, 2014.

The Yo-kai franchise is a phenomenon in Japan, with feature films, television series and ubiquitous merchandising. In North America, the series has had a relatively slower start, but still includes a TV series (Disney XD recently renewed the series for a second season), manga, and merchandising.

“After being such a massive sensation in Japan, it’s great to see Canada start to embrace the mischievous and lovable Yo-kai,” said Pierre-Paul Trepanier, Nintendo of Canada’s general manager and senior director, in a news release.
