Jordin Sparks’ acute throat injury in cutthroat industry

American Idol: Season 6 winner, Jordin Sparks was forced to cancel three shows over the weekend due to a serious throat injury that threatens her career.

18-year-old Sparks is suffering from “an acute vocal cord hemorrhage,” and has been ordered to rest her vocal chords until the condition improves, according to a spokesperson for the Penn State arena where Sparks was scheduled to perform Sunday night.

Sparks, the youngest winner in American Idol history, also cancelled an Earth Day show that was scheduled for today at Washington, DC’s National Mall, as well as an Alicia Keys’ concert scheduled for Saturday, where she was slated to perform as the opening act.

Sparks and her representatives could not be reached for comment as of Sunday.

Meanwhile, many of Sparks’ fans have been flooding the American Idol website forums with prayer requests and well-wishes for the singer.
