The CBC sitcom Little Mosque on the Prairie wrapped up its debut season on a high note on March 4, drawing 1.116 million viewers.
The surprise Canadian hit generated international media attention before the first episode even aired, thanks to its hot-button premise. Mosque was notably profiled by The New York Times, CNN and the BBC.
As a result, the Jan. 9 premiere drew 2.196 million viewers, a record for a series premiere on CBC.
While Mosque‘s audience dropped almost by half from its premiere — its eight-episode season averaged 1.252 million viewers — the show held up well against some of television’s biggest hits, including American Idol.
