The first issue of Canadian Illustrated News, the first periodical to reproduce a photograph, is published in Montreal.

1971

The Toronto Telegram publishes its final issue after 96 years. Until 1932, it was Toronto’s largest circulation newspaper.

1995

Quebec narrowly rejects separation in a refendum. The “No” side won by 50.6 per cent to 49.4 per cent for the “Yes” side.
